The Coalition for Clean Air wanted to bring attention to air pollution, and raise money to build a cleaner future.

insight

Hearing about air pollution is like white noise — we get it, things are bleak. What can we actually do about it though?

idea

Buy back the pollution — yeah, really. Buy it. The nasty soot that comes out of your tailpipe can actually be transformed into everyday products like ink, soap, and so much more. We'll partner with these brands to create a massive slacktivism campaign — the more pollution you purchase, the less there is in the air. So you can breathe easy.

To spread the word, we will print Carbon Market posters on recycled paper with pollution based ink.

WILD POSTING CCA.jpg

We will post hundreds of posters around the city, because the more ink we ‘waste’, the more pollution we are taking out of the air.

CCA’s Carbon Market

With physical pop-up markets, the CCA will give purpose to both the products that already exist, and the ones we have created out of carbon emissions. By using the proceeds from the carbon markets to help fund lobbying, we are furthering the fight to clean up the air.

Carbon Market Products

A mixture of real, existing items created from repurposed pollution as well as a few CCA-branded items that don’t exist yet, but could. And should.

Carbon Receipts

Our receipts tally the total impact of each purchase, and are printed with inverted colors to use more pollution ink.

Polluted Press

Using the ink printed from carbon, we will do a press takeover in the LA Times, bringing light to our initiative while depositing pollution from the air onto the page.

PAINT IT BLACK

To raise further awareness for CCA and ‘waste’ more ink, we will paint San Francisco’s famous Golden Gate Bridge with pollution.

Pop-up Carbon Markets

By transforming abandoned gas stations into pop up Carbon Markets (painted with Air Ink), we will further “buy back” the pollution these stations have already put out.

To draw attention to the creative possibilities of pollution, we will partner with Pantone’s color of the year.

“Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to disperse because we’ve been ignorant of their value.”
